MOJO The Collectors’ Series THE BEATLES RED ISSUE 1962-1966

A new, updated edition of our sold-out Beatles special featuring MOJO’s finest writing on the band’s early years.

Sixty years ago, in 1965, The Beatles secured their reputation as the world’s biggest-ever pop group with a record-breaking tour of North America that reached its climax at New York’s giant, 65,000-capacity Shea Stadium. The group were fast changing the music business in ways few could have previously imagined – while also pushing music to extravagant new heights of creativity.

Featuring 132 pages of in-depth features and interviews, THE BEATLES RED ISSUE – named in honour of the famous 1973 ‘Red’ compilation of their early-to-mid ’60s recordings – brings together MOJO’s finest writing on their extraordinary first years together. It begins with their formative days as leather-clad rock’n’rollers in Liverpool and Hamburg and ends with the making of their psychedelic pop masterpiece Revolver and final months as a touring act.

Among the treasures you’ll find inside are Beatles expert Mark Lewisohn’s account of the Fab Four’s contentious first ‘test’ recording session for EMI on June 6, 1962; cultural historian Jon Savage’s story of the birth of Beatlemania the following year; veteran US music writer Dave Marsh’s examination of America’s passionate love affair with John, Paul, George and Ringo; and legendary former NME editor Neil Spencer writing on George Harrison’s pivotal discovery of Indian classical music. New features include MOJO founding editor Paul Du Noyer’s deep dive into the Rubber Soul album and broadsheet staple Victoria Segal unravelling the sonic secrets and enduring mysteries of Revolver.

Illustrated with dozens of iconic and rare images, THE BEATLES RED ISSUE is a must-have for all fans of the Fab Four
